Francois R. Leonard - 2024 No. 96 Lattice

Francois R. Leonard - 2024 No. 96 Lattice

Overview

François Leonard has been building classical guitars for almost 20 years and lives and works in his workshop in Lorient, France. He had the opportunity to learn from many guitar builders in England and also worked in the Lakewood workshop in Germany. He received support from Dominique Field as an occasional mentor, so it is no surprise that the aesthetics and structural concept of his guitars are strongly influenced by French masters such as Daniel Friederich and Dominique Field.

This guitar, numbered 96, showcases Leonard’s consistency concerning tone and finish quality. Built with a cedar top and Indian rosewood back and sides, this instrument exudes an elegance and tonal depth that is both captivating and sophisticated. Its lattice bracing allows for a uniquely reactive soundboard, enhancing each note with remarkable resonance and dynamic range. With richly resonant trebles and a broad tonal palette, the guitar invites an intimate connection with the performer, allowing for precise expression and a nuanced dialogue in every performance.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
