Francois Regis Leonard - 2023 Cedar No. 87

Francois Regis Leonard - 2023 Cedar No. 87

Overview

François Leonard has been building classical guitars for almost 20 years and lives and works in his workshop in Lorient, France. He had the opportunity to learn from many guitar builders in England and also worked in the Lakewood workshop in Germany. He received support from Dominique Field as an occasional mentor, so it is no surprise that the aesthetics and structural concept of his guitars are strongly influenced by French masters such as Daniel Friederich and Dominique Field.

In the echelons of elite musical craftsmanship, the 2023 Francois Regis Leonard stands as a beacon of sonic excellence. With precision akin to a sculptor's finest touch, this masterpiece is carved from the gentle embrace of cedar, granting its soundboard a vibrant resonance. Paired with this is the opulent depth of Indian rosewood, enveloping the guitar's form, presenting a blend of audacity and tradition in one fell swoop.

More than its stunning aesthetics, it is technologically advanced with its lattice bracing system, which isn't merely a structural enhancement but a guarantee of its superlative acoustics. Tailored for the concert stage, it promises arresting volume and effortless playability, ensuring that each performance is not just heard but felt deeply by its audience.

The trebles of this guitar are a study in versatility. Direct and immediate, they command attention with their presence. Yet, with the subtle shift of a player's touch, they can transform, evoking melancholic hues that tug at the soul.

Every aspect of this guitar, from material choice to design nuance, culminates in a guitar that is both a visual delight and an auditory revelation.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
