Overview

About the luthier

Hugo Cuvilliez began his career crafting traditional Irish instruments in Galway, Ireland, where he worked for two years. He then moved to Brions, France, where he opened a shared workshop with a furniture maker, refining his skills and expanding his knowledge in instrument making. In 2001, Hugo established his own workshop in Marsanne, France, where he has since specialized in classical guitars with lattice bracing. Over the years, he has developed his own unique lattice design, blending innovation and tradition to create instruments of exceptional quality and sound.

About the guitar

This brand-new guitar by Hugo exemplifies his mastery of classical guitar craftsmanship. The top is crafted from Val di Fiemme spruce, sourced from the Italian Alps, renowned for its exceptional tonal properties. Hugo meticulously tunes the top by carefully adjusting the thickness of each section, ensuring optimal resonance and tonal balance. The back and sides are doubled, with special attention given to the choice of inner wood to enhance the guitar’s tonal characteristics. This construction approach results in an instrument with remarkable projection and dynamic range. The lattice bracing is made of spruce with a thin carbon fiber reinforcement. The neck, reinforced with carbon fiber crafted by Hugo himself, ensures long-term stability. A distinctive rosette featuring yellow details, made from *Citronnier de Ceylon satinwood, adds a touch of elegance to the guitar’s visual appeal. This guitar is an outstanding concert instrument, offering exceptional playability. Notably, the slightly elevated, floating fingerboard enhances accessibility and ease of play in the upper register.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
